Dead man's Fork
Date of Battle: June 19, 1865
Location of Battle:
Participants: Colonel Moonlight with 3 companies of cavalry out of Fort Laramie chased some Sioux until they trapped him with 200 warriors.
The Sioux discovered that the Army was following their trail. When Moonlight's men camped in the valley of Dead Man's Fork 200 warriors were sent in to runn off the horses. The loose animals stampeded and run over the hills. Some solders mounted and chased the horses over the hills but they saw the trap and returned in time and went back to camp.
