Participants: Colonel Nelson A Miles with companies of the 5th and 22nd Infantry fought Crazy Horse and about 500 Sioux warriors.
Miles was expecting an attack while camped along the Tongue River. Crazy Horse began maneuvering for an advantage but every time the Indians congregated for an attack, the artillery bombarded them. After about 5 hours a new blizzard blew in and the Indians withdrew. Each side lost 3 men.
