         of the mountain west

I am interested in Western History from about 1800 to 1900.  This site deals with Rocky Mountain history between the years 1800 to 1890.  I grew up in eastern Montana where some of the most exciting history took place in the form of battles between the US Army and the Northern Plains Indians.  In my travels to visit these sites, several things became apparent.  Some of the local people were proud of their history and had the sites marked while others didn't care and hadn't even heard of the events that took place in their community.   Some of the places are impossible to find and very few of the places I visited were national or state sites.  Wyoming has been the best at marking their historic sites.

There is a lot of information available but it is scattered around all over the west.  I am trying to gather it into one pile and make it available to anyone that is interested in this period of western development.  I am sure that I am leaving something of interest out of my pile.  If I am, please contact me with any corrections or additions  and I will include it when I do my updates.  This is a part-time hobby for me so don't expect things to happen too fast.  Right now I have a lot of information to put on this site and it is going to take me a long time so be patient.  This information is not intended to give you a complete account of what happened at the sites but to give you an overview and a reference where you can find out more about the places and events listed here.

I have finished Montana Fights, Montana Forts, Wyoming Fights, Wyoming Forts, Colorado Forts and Colorado fights.  I got quit a few photos in CO and WY and will post them when I get the time.  I have changed the place I show the revision dates so it will be a little easier for you to know what I have changed without going through everything.
