Participants: A detachment of the 18th Infantry under Lt. Templeton against a Lakota and Cheyenne war party.
A wagon train of army wives was being escorted by a detachment of soldiers under the command of Lt. George Templeton was headed for fort Phil Kearny when the forward scouts were jumped by about 50 warriors. Lt. Daniels was killed and Lt. Templeton was chase back to the wagons with an arrow in his back. Just before sundown, another wagon train came along and the Indians left. 2 soldiers were killed and the Indian casualties are unknown.
