Date of Battle: July 7, 1863
Location of Battle: Ryan Park, WY
Participants: 70 soldiers from the 1st Colorado Cavalry and the 9th Kansas Cavalry against 250 Ute Indians.
The Utes had been raiding the mail line and stolen 173 horses and 34 mules. The Cavalry overtook the Indians in the Medicine Bow Mountains and the Indians opened fire. The fight lasted two hours before the Indians broke and ran. 20 dead Utes were left on the battle field and about 40 more dead and wounded were carried off while only 1 soldier was killed.
