Participants: Colonel Cole and Colonel Walker fought about 3,000 to 4,000 Sioux.
Colonel Walker with his 16th Kansas was about 3 to 4 miles ahead of Colonel Cole with his 12th Missouri when Cole was attacked by the Sioux a few miles north of the mouth of the Little Powder River. Cole arrived with part of his command and drove the Indians off. Between this battle and the Roman Nose fight a few days earlier, 9 soldiers were killed and the number of Indian casualties is unknown. Walker and Cole lost about 600 horses and mules on this expedition for General Connor.
