Established on August 14, 1865 on the left bank of the Powder River about 4 miles below the mouth of Dry Fork. The fort was to protect the Bozeman Trail and to act as a supply base for Connor's campaign in 1865. It was abandoned on August 18, 1868 as a result of the Laramie Treaty of 1868.
