Participants: Capt. Alfred E Bates with 60 soldiers, 20 Shoshone scouts and 167 Shoshones under chief Washakie against 112 lodges of Arapaho
The Arapahos were on a raid to steel horses from the Shoshones and were found the morning of July 4th. The Shoshones started singing their war song and alerted the Arapahos of the fight so the soldiers charged the village. In less than one half hour the Arapahos were in the cliffs and their horses were taken. 25 Arapahos, 3 soldiers, and 2 Shoshones were killed.
