Capt. Thomas A Strombs with 48 soldiers was escorting the Baca wagon train when more than 40 Kiowa and Comanche warriors charged into the cattle heard. The Indians were driven away with only one mule and three ponies lost. Strombs estimated hitting 5 Indians while only 1 herder was killed.
